Jewellery fashion in a recession economy !

Up until recently, its been possible to pinpoint 20 to 30 mini fashion trends every season. Global communication encourages us to get ahead of ourselves, we can see the trends in New York, Paris and Rome, as they’re happening, literally in some cases. As a result new fashion offerings seem to have a short life span, with people tiring of them very quickly and moving on to the next thing.

This year is going to be very different because of the downturn in the global economy. Overriding signs in March 2009 suggest that while, we’ll always follow fashion trends, it looks like there’ll be a resurgence of the times when a few main trends set the tone for a complete fashion season.

For jewellery, the trends are for huge necklaces, big costume jewellery, retro and real vintage gem looks, tribal necklaces, stacked cuff bangles, massive cocktail dress rings and some luxury pieces (think investment ) Fashionable tones of citrus green and orange are hotter than a griddle at the moment. With a splash of rose, pink and plum for good measure !

Whatever clothing trend you follow, adding colour to your wardrobe may be the hottest trend tip at the moment!

Citrus Brights in vogue this Spring !

Brilliant news for us, Bold and vivid citrus brights are the de rigeur colours this Spring.

A fabulous antidote to Winters mulled shades. Following the Pure Womenswear exhibition, its clear that while Grey's, Charcoals, fawn and even black are continuing in popularity the accent colours are bright to lift the overall look of an outfit.

For jewellery, bold, chunky and contrasting seemed to be the message from the catwalks, Big rings, stacked bangles and a mixture of colour and texture. Jewellery means that any outfit can be updated to the latest fashion trends in an instant, without costing the earth.

While on the colour front -Vibrant popping electric brights compete with soft sorbet tints.

In the red range warm rose and hot shocking pink are the popular tones While in the aqua spectrum there's deep green, bright green, jade aqua and deep lapis blue. Monochromes so far include slate grey, black, fawn and navy. While the key colours of, lemon yellows, tangerine, orange and antique gold are going to be the biggies this season....

Its a season to be playful and adventurous and enjoy fashion

Snow business at the exhibitions...

So finally, we're back, just in time to enjoy a fresh fall of snow as opposed to battling through it to get to the stand :-)

Countdown to the Spring Fair & Pure..3 ..2.. 1

Wow, can't believe they're nearly upon us, we are in the midst of a flurry of preparations for the shows, and trying to dodge the flu virus, everyone's dropping like flies ! It'll be close, but we'll be ready.

Looking forward into the Spring, Citrus brights are big at the moment, which is great news for us as Sukie Lau is not know for her sombre tones. Its big, bold and colourful all the way...!

Lets face it we could all do with some bright colours and a pick me up with all the bad news and doom and despair we're constantly bombarded with, maybe that's why the Spring colours are soooo bright this year? Everyone's just had enough - Bring on the colour, bring on the Spring

Happy New Year

Well, Happy New Year ! and here's to a good one !

I've just returned from sharm el sheik, an alternative Christmas on the beach, so I have to say I'm feeling the cold a tad !

So before i go and hunt out some warmth, here's my new Year's resolutions (made while watching a belly dancer do her stuff !)

Fret less, laugh more, train my dog, Look up at the stars (but not while driving!) exercise more (yes really !) Take more bubble baths, make fewer to-do lists. Say Yes more often ! (thanks Danny for that one!) Make funky jewelry. Make business less stressful. Have fun with my new designs. Go to seven new places, See Bette Middler in Vegas, Go out dancing ! Chill out and have fun !

What's the new year got in store for Sukie? Ah, so you'll have to wait till Birmingham, or Pure, but here's some clues - colour, stones, attitude and fun !

So, whatever you're doing, have a great New Year ! Brrrr !
